Riyadh Air Metropolitano

Madrid, Spain 70,460
Sin reseñas aún

The Riyadh Air Metropolitano — renamed after the naming deal with the Saudi airline — is Atlético de Madrid's home since 2017. With 70,460 seats, full roof coverage over the stands and a 360º LED ring, it is one of Europe's most modern stadiums. It has hosted the 2019 Champions League final and key Euro 2020 matches.

History and architecture

It originally opened as Estadio de la Comunidad de Madrid in 1994 for athletics and ceremonies. Atlético acquired it and commissioned Cruz y Ortiz Arquitectos to redesign it, adding a wavy fibreglass roof over every stand, VIP boxes, full services and a 360º LED ring. It reopened on 16 September 2017 with Atlético 1-0 Málaga.

Iconic moments

The Metropolitano hosted the 2019 Champions League final (Liverpool 2-0 Tottenham) and four Euro 2020 games. It is the new home of Diego Simeone's Atlético trophies, including the 2020-21 La Liga title. It has also staged historic concerts by Iron Maiden, Metallica and Taylor Swift, plus the 2019 Copa del Rey final.

Getting there and matchday tips

The nearest Metro station is Estadio Metropolitano (line 7, grey), a 10-minute walk down a well-lit avenue. Buses 28, 38, 48, 140 and 153 also stop nearby. Official car parks are available but fill fast for big games. Arrive 60 minutes early; access points are wide but security is thorough.

Where to sit and what to eat

Fondo Sur (lower) holds the Frente Atlético and the loudest chants. Preferente lateral offers the best view with roof cover. Upper Gol Norte has more accessible prices with excellent panoramic sightlines. VIP boxes include catering and open bar. Concourse: calamari sandwiches, jamón, croquettes, Mahou draught and vegetarian options.
