The Estadio BBVA — also known as "The Steel Giant" — is CF Monterrey's home since 2015 and one of the most modern stadiums in Latin America. With 53,500 seats and the Cerro de la Silla mountain as backdrop from the north end, it is the most recognisable postcard of football in northern Mexico.
History and architecture
Designed by Populous (behind the Emirates and Yankee Stadium), it opened on 2 August 2015 with Mexico vs Trinidad and Tobago. Its aluminium and Corten steel envelope evokes Monterrey's steel mills, and its partial roof leaves the north end open to frame the Cerro de la Silla. It features over 300 boxes, a museum, official store and a food plaza.
Iconic moments
The BBVA saw Rayados win the 2019 CONCACAF Champions League (revenge for the 4-1 loss to Tigres) and several Liga MX titles. It hosted the 2019 Club World Cup and will host 2026 World Cup matches, for which FIFA has approved temporarily renaming it Estadio Monterrey. It has also staged concerts by Coldplay, Bad Bunny and Roger Waters.
Getting there and matchday tips
Easiest access is by car: official parking inside the complex (arrive 2 hours early) or alternatives at nearby shopping centres. Shuttle services from Metrorrey also run. Avoid Miguel Alemán highway rush hour. Arrive 60 minutes early; the food plaza is a good pre-match option with grilled meats, craft beer and family choices.
Where to sit and what to eat
Cabecera Norte offers the Cerro de la Silla view — the stadium's best photo. Cabecera Sur holds the Adicción supporters and the loudest chants. Preferente lateral is covered with catering. Boxes and suites include waiter service and open bar. Concourse: grilled meats, burgers, northern cabrito, Tecate beer and international options.
